I'm experiencing the same issue. The newsgroups added for sync don't update by the "send/recieve" button nor with "auto-send/recieve". The only way to get updates is leaving the group and re-enter or through the "tools > sync" menu.

Actually, there seems to be some auto-sync (gettin new headers), but definately not the same as the general "send/recieve" sync, it takes MUCH more time.
